Winter Time Blues

For those folks who live north of the Mason/Dixion line, waking up to zero degree weather may not be something worth talking about if it is winter time. But for those folks who are blessed to live in "dear ole Dixie" waking up to zero degree weather (even in mid- January) is outrageous! Especially when for two weeks solid the highs in the daytime are only up to 18 or 20 degrees and the nights are down in the single digits.
So, I wondered, what do farmgirls keep themselves busy with on these fridgid Artic days? Here is a list that my sisters and I came up with. You know keeping our hands and minds busy- we almost forgot about our winter time blues!
 Quilting
Planning, designing and sewing your summer wardrobe
Bake a pine-apple upside down cake
Take a walk at night to see the stars (they are brilliant on very cold nights!)
Write a song, poem or short story
Clean and oil your guns
Crochet a rug out of baling twine
Read up on how to make maple syrup
Organize your pantry shelves
Make a clothes pin apron
Have someone over for a special dinner
If there's snow on the ground, for crying out loud, get out and play in it!!!
